Mr. Mike Flake

      Mr. Flake currently serves as the Band Director at Grand Oaks High School in the Conroe Independent School District. Mr. Flake has taught all levels of band including beginner, intermediate, junior high and high school.  His specialty is woodwinds.
 
     Mr. Flake is from Texas City, Texas, and graduated from The University of Houston with a Bachelor's Degree in Music.  He continued his education and earned a Master's of Music Degree from DePaul University. This is the GOHS band director's fifteen year in education.  
​
     Flake's music accomplishments include a variety of milestones.  In 1997, he was one of only four people in the world selected into the DePaul University Clarinet Studio.  Secondly, the 2007 McCullough Wind Ensemble won the National Wind Band Honors Concert Band Contest. In addition, the 2014 Woodlands College Park High School Clarinet Choir was selected to perform at the Mid-West Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, IL.

     Professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Association of Texas Professional Educators.  

​

     Flake is happily married to Karen Flake, my wife of 20 years.  He and his wife have two beautiful daughters,  Madeline (18) and Sydney (16), and live in The Woodlands, Texas.   During his spare time, he enjoys running, cooking and working with his hands.

Mr. Brian Moran

       Mr. Moran is in his 20th year of education.  He currently serves as the Band Director at Grand Oaks High School in the Conroe Independent School District.    Moran was an assistant at Wells Middle School in Spring ISD for his first four years of education. Then, he had the privilege of opening Claughton Middle School as the head director where he worked for three years.   Moran also opened Magnolia West High School as the head director for one year. Prior to coming to Grand Oaks, he taught band at Collins Intermediate for eleven years.
​
     Born in Dallas, Moran moved to League City which is where he grew up.  He attended the University of Houston where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education.  Moran continued is education at Sam Houston State University where he graduated with a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership.  
​
       Moran was the Conroe ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2013.  In addition, the GOHS Band Director belongs to the Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Bandmasters Association.
​
       Moran's wife, Dusti, is the art teacher at Oak Ridge Elementary.  They have four children, Ella (8th grade french horn at York), Ainslie (5th grade percussionist at Vogel Intermediate), Finnian (4th grader) and Donovan (1st grader).   The Moran's have 2 dogs, too.  Tucker is a miniature schnauzer and Oakley is a black lab.  Mrs. Moran found Oakley on the feeder road in front of Grand Oaks one day when she brought Mr. Moran lunch. She has a chip but they could not locate the previous owner.  They named her Oakley after Grand Oaks!

Mr. Trace Brown

       Mr. Brown is in his 4th year of education.  He currently serves as the Director of Color Guard at Grand Oaks High School in the Conroe Independent School District.    Brown was the Color Guard Tech at Clear Brook High School from 2016 to 2019.  He also worked with Friendswood High School during the 2018-2019 school year as well as Deer Park High School for 2019. 
​
     Originally from Davenport, Oklahoma, Brown moved to Houston in 2005.  He has seven brothers and sisters.  Brown had the opportunity to perform during the Super Bowl LI with Lady Gaga.  
​
   Mr. Brown's marching experience includes working with the Boston Crusaders in 2017, Phantom Regiment in 2018, and Cypress Independent during the winter time from 2017-2019.  Grand Oaks is excited about Mr. Brown joining the team.
